Marine VHF Radio Courses
A course for anyone who owns a fixed or hand-held marine VHF radio. The Short Range Certificate is the minimum qualification required by law to operate a VHF radio fitted with Digital Selective Calling (DSC) on any British vessel voluntarily fitted with a radio.

A radio is an important piece of safety equipment on board and it is vital to understand the correct procedures. Unnecessary transmissions could block out a Mayday distress call and all new VHF sets are either fitted, or can be interfaced, with DSC allowing calls to specific vessels.

RYA Powerboating Courses
Our informative and fun Powerboat courses are run on the River Thames at Greenwich. We are an accredited RYA Powerboat Training Centre and our powerboat instructors hold a wealth of knowledge and experience in teaching and skippering Powerboats. The boat we use is a 6.0 metre Valiant RIB, fitted to RYA/MCA specifications.

Thames Active will train to the RYA (coastal) syllabus, but will also give specific attention to the local conditions of the River Thames.
